As it happens culture
I’ve been on vacation for the last month so all has been quiet on the blogging front.
When I was visiting family in New Zealand I was helping them layout photo’s on their christmas newsletter. Rather than a christmas card, they write an A4 one page summary of the year…I really like getting this letter in the mail as I can catch up on a years worth of news.
I thought of doing something similar and then Facebook came to mind.
For my social network such a letter would be old news. On Facebook we know about each others lives as it happens. In fact it’s more than this as it’s a two way thing where we can leave content on each others profiles (wall posts, comments), it has the intimacy of status updates (where after a while you start to get the mood of a person), and just like the letter you can share items, notes and photo’s (even video), etc…
We live in different days where location and time are no longer an obstacle in immediate connection and awareness. I’m not talking about a channel like the phone, email, or IM…I’m talking about a many to many platform like a social network where we have a holistic view of what we are up to (without even having to directly interact with each other). We choose to share our lives and our circle of friends can choose to tune in.
Not only this, it also has a discovery element where we can make new friends, and a feature where we can come together as a group who have a shared interest.
