Attended a demo at work for a new whiteboard app called Mimio…very impressive.

This is not a collaborative whiteboard like skrbl, it’s moreso extending a physical whiteboard with electronic features.

Capture

Attach a gadget to a surface, even a window or a table , but preferably a whitebaord, this gadget talks to the dongle on a PC or laptop.

Fire up the mimio software on your PC and project on a wall for all people in the room to see.

Grab your mimio marker and insert it into the electronic stylus, and grab the mimio electronic duster.

Write on the whiteboard with the marker and what ever you write will also appear electronically as seen projected on the wall.

Print from the gadget or simply print from the electronic version on the PC, also save as a file on your PC…how cool is that everyone can have a file of the whiteboard session, although this is not a new idea.
NOTE: ScanR and qipit enable you to take a photo with your phone and it will be scanned into a PDF and sent to you in an email or online.

Another thing you can do is select a section of the whiteboard and import as an image into MSWord, excel, powerpoint, or even as regular text (via character recognition)

Or instead of having the mimio app open, have MSWord or others open and what you write on the whiteboard will be turned into text (via character recognition)…who needs to type a document when you can write one the old way.

Use web conferencing so remote people can see the electronic version of what you are writing on the physical whiteboard, they also have their own product to screenshare.
Not sure how others can collaborate to annotate the same whiteboard.

Interactive

This is where it starts getting advanced, this is where you project an MSOffice application onto the whiteboard itself (still need the gadget attached to the whiteboard).

What you can do here is mark-up and annotate powerpoint, word, etc…save and print the file.

Or clip parts of an office file into the mimio app, or insert files into the mimio app.

Or have a blank screen and use the mimio toolbox to throw up some text, charts and symbols, etc…

This is great for simply giving a powerpoint presentation and drawing all over it as you deliver, a bit like a football coach drawing the direction of a play strategy.

Mimio can be used to annotate for review purposes, brainstorming, and also to add more interactivity to your presentation (maybe we won’t sleep through powerpoint presentations).
