Meta-identity content, ok then Lifestreams

So what do you call it when you splice content from various feeds from all the web 2.0 services you publish content in:

Personal Content Management or Personal Content Stream
Profile Management
Identity Management or Identity Stream…even Meta-identity
Personal Data Stream
Life Stream

To make it even more confusing some of these services are even within a social network itself.

And there are even RSS remixing services that are more general and not focused just on personal RSS feeds (although you can use them for this purpose)

The structure of the content may even affect the name of this thing we are talking about, content can be a mixed stream, but it can also be widgets on a page, or even a cloud.

The Lifestream Blog is focused on this very activity, there’s even a post about defining this personal collective site.

The Lifestream blog has even started a list of Lifestreaming services…I’m going to clone this list adding some more related type services.

Roundup : Kyte, Twittercamp, Phonetag, Twitterviz, urlTea

Kyte - get your own space called a TV, also as a widget and mobile access, private or multi-authored, content can be video, images, even produce polls and slideshows, etc, and has real-time chat, but not video streaming like Ustream…learn more. I guess this reminds me of pickle and cellblock, only Kyte allows different types of content formats. See similar media mashup services.

Twittercamp - desktop app to monitor Twitter updates, suited for large screens.

Phonetag - voice updates to Twitter by phone…see spinmyblog to post by voice to your own blog.

Twitterviz - timeline to see the time frequency of your Twitter friends…you can kind of see this for one person as an author search on Twitterment. [via DM]

urlTea - shorten URL’s and annotate the URL eg. http://urltea.com/1?lol_at_the_photo
Notice that after the “?” you can annotate a string of characters…if you you this with Twitter and you bust the 140 character limit, it will still post as long as everything before the question mark is intact.
Besides shortening the URL with a bookmarklet, you can also do it with IM by adding teabot@urltea.com to your contacts or alternatively you can use it with IMified.
You can also post to Twitter by IM using IMified, handy when Twitter IM is down.

Roundup : meshly, Panraven, Yoname, Blogger & Podcaster Magazine, Miniboxs

meshly - social bookmarks with tags, channels and voting, the main difference is you don’t post by a web form or a bookmarlet, it’s all by IM, even the initial registration. I like the idea of channels (folders) as well as tags, also see netvouz, clipmarks and Spurl. [RRW]

Panraven - mixed media scrap booking, see others [via mashable]

Yoname - search people networks, see Wink and others listed here…note some of these services search network services, and some search within its own service based on people registering their network profiles within the system, and others are more about a mixed stream of personal content rather than search, and some are all of the above. [via mashable]

Blogger & Podcaster magazine - Unreal, I’ve been waiting for a web2.0 trade mag, when I browse magazines I never find anything I like. Not sure if this magazine will be in the shops but you can; subscribe (pay) to the print, or print off the electronic version, read (free) the electronic version, listen to the electronic version (also on podcast), and subscribe for the latest on their blog.

Any other web2.0 trade mags I should know about?

Miniboxs - calls itself an RSS magazine, but all it’s just a single aggregator like Original Signal and others…make one yourself with BozPages, Netvibes Universe, PageFlakes public , Protopage public, Speedyfeed, Feedraider, Yourminis, webjam and others

Roundup : Trailfire Groups, Snap Shots, mowser, deliciousTags2OPML, iceflake, findmeon, 8hands

Trailfire Groups - Trailfire is a way to annotate the web and create a hyperlink trail…they have now added a group feature (your trail is limited to a private or public group), wiki trails (communal editing trails), and a contacts network [via Mashable]

Snap Shots - Snap Preview Anywhere has been extended to more specific displays; a wikipedia or Amazon link will display that content excerpt instead of just a preview image of the website; a media URL will display a photo slideshow, play a video or audio clip, see the gallery.
I wonder if someone can develop a SnapShot Grazr mashup, so when you hover over an RSS or OPML URL you can graze away…I think Clever Clogs is tinkering on this one.

mowser - bookmark this website on your phone and surf the mobile friendly web [via WW]

deliciousTags2OPML - enter your del.icio.us username and ask to show tags that have a certain number of bookmarks and above. It generates an OPML code, I had to copy it in notepad and save it as test.txt.xml. Then I uploaded it to Grazr to host the file…then simply graze the feed content of your del.icio.us tags.

iceflake and findmeon - these are both meta-identity services, see Tabber, LinkMyBox, Profilefly, Loopster, Spock, iStalkr, OtherEgo, Zoolit, ShowYourself, Streakr, SocialURL, SocialGrapes, pidy, Pipl, Wink, Mugshot, Profilactic, UpScoop, SocialNetwork. In, ProfileLinker, Ziki, Lijit, and the rest.

8hands - another meta-identity service, but you download this one, and you can IM with other 8hands users. [via mashable]

The many ways to post to your blog

There’s no excuse to not publish blog posts, you can do it from anywhere using various web tools!

BOOKMARKLET
Wordpress (Press It)

ONLINE OFFICE
Google Docs

MSWORD
Blogger

TOOLBAR
Blogger (Blog This)

RSS READER
Google Reader (Blog This)
…no longer available, but I’m sure lots of RSS Readers have this feature.

BLOG POST or RSS ITEM
If a blog feed has Feedburner flare you can post to your blog from someone else’s blog post or from an item in your RSS Reader, eg. Blog This (Blogger)

BLOGGING CLIENT
Desktop - Qumana
Web based - WriteToMyBlog

EMAIL
Blogmailr
…most blogging platforms have this feature anyway.

BROWSER EXTENSTION (right-click)
JustBlogIt

BROWSER SIDEBAR
Wordpress.com sidebar
…I have a bookmarklet that opens a sidebar in Internet Explorer (can’t find a reference to it on the web)

STARTPAGE
Quick Blog (Blogger)

IM
Imified

NOTE: Sabifoo doesn’t qualify as you would have to splice this feed into your blog feed.

SMS
LetMeParty

VOICE/PHONE
SpinmyBlog, by Spinvox, is a service where you can phone and leave a voicemail which will convert to text and publish to your blog.
If you promote your Spinvox number on your blog, people can ring up and leave voice comments that get converted to text.

[ADDED 02/05/07: Jott - link a Jott to a blog post…also using Egorcast]

[ADDED 02/06/07: Speakageline - post audio or video bytes from your phone, these would be podcast blog entries if your feed is podcast enabled.]

[ADDED 24/09/07: Utters - SMS or phone a blog post…now with AutoPost]

[ADDED 05/11/07: Springdoo]

API/PLUG-IN
Include content from elsewhere automatically to your blog
eg. your del.icio.us links, or Twitter posts.
[ADDED 12/07/07: xFruits RSS to blog]

MODIFY TIMESTAMP
Publish a post that has a future date, the post will magically publish in the future

What about publishing a blog post using a telegraph…see the hack to generate feeds!

Roundup : Grazr preview, Egnyte, Zude, Tabber, LinkMyBox

Grazr preview - like Snap preview but within feed content, that is preview a link as an image when you are reading in your RSS Reader. But it will work outside of your RSS Reader as well, basically you click the bookmarklet, and then shift-click on any link on the page, and you will see a preview of the last 10 posts. NOTE: the link you click on has to be on a webpage that has a feed…see another Grazr bookmarklet.

I have a new idea for Grazr, what about a drop down menu to choose an outline, just like Rollyo and Conduit.

Egnyte - file sharing similar to tubes. [via WW]

Zude - a startpage type of website creator [via mashable]

Tabber - sounds similar to Loopster, a meta-friends page. [mashable]

LinkMyBox - how many can there be, see Tabber directly above. [via mashable]

MySay : audio micro blogging

MySay is micro voice blogging, it does for voice what Twitter does for text…this is not new, check out Evoca and Pheeder.

Create an audio snippet on the phone or record on the web, or upload an mp3 file on the web, also on the web you can type in text which converts to audio. You can add non-MySay friends to your list, so when you create a new snippet they are emailed an update (I think they will have to listen to it on the web).
To listen to your friends dial a number and listen or enter a code of the person you want to listen to.

Notifications are by email or SMS.

Also plenty of widgets, even to greet your blog visitors, see an example on the MySay blog sidebar.

I wish I could email an audio attachment from my phone email, kind of like what Emailtwitter does for Twitter.

And how would I receive updates by email attachment, again an EmailTwitter type solution…I couldn’t even do this myself using an RSS to email solution like Rmail as my snippets, or friends timeline doesn’t have an RSS feed.
Even so would Rmail include the audio enclosures as attachments?

In other news, I’ve asked Rmail if regular images in feed content could be included as attachments in an email (due to my phone email not accepting rich text inline, but it will, as an attachment).

For photo micro blogging, see NowThen, and then put it all together with Yodio.

PageFlakes : are widgets the new blog format?

PageFlakes, the super innovative startpage that has a great RSS Reader and public pages has now introduced a blog flake (widget).

This is starting to feel like a MySpace widget version, only without the social networking part, what I mean is that this may be the new homepage, ie. a homepage for others to surf to that represents you on the web…the new Netvibes Universe is in the same game.

What represents you, what is the new homepage?

In a past post I was asking this question, and still think someone’s blog is their goto homepage, due to the sidebar.

But the new PageFlakes blog widget turns this around, you aren’t limited to the sidebar, you have a page with boxes, and you can also collapse these, thus fitting more on your page, position them as you like, something TypePad added with their drag and drop sidebar’s.

Now with the Blog Flake the original blog structure is no longer, but what I ask is, can you change the size of the blog flake so it becomes the dominant flake, giving the page contextual structure, in that your page is more about the blog, along with some other widgets.

Why doesn’t the Google Startpage (not sure if they have a public option) have a Blogger widget to compete with PageFlakes?

Anyway, a widget format for blogging allows your blog to become more of a homepage.

[ADDED 18/05/07 : I noticed WebJam has a blog module, kind of reminds me of Zimbio Wikizines]

Roundup : MyQuire, Wattpad, Grouptivity Discuss, DivShare Groups, Netvibes Universe

MyQuire - social network for projects…calendar, text editor, doc viewer, file storage and chat…see the tour. [via SW]

Wattpad - a mobile social network based on text posting, now has an app you can download to read books on your phone.
This has pretty much re-focused the aim of the service, instead of a mobile generic blogging service about anything, the content of your text space is more towards story blogging.

What a great idea, in the past I’ve come across blogs that act as a book, posting a daily chapter, I convert the RSS to email, so I can read a chapter a day on my phone email without using the mobile web. If book blogs are a common thing why not bring them into a generic blogging social network like Sponit and others, where it can be featured packed towards the book blogging format.
What about an audio version, a similar service like Evoca could come along focused on audio story telling, get an RSS to audio of the latest chapter… see my media mashup post for more. FeedCycle and textcasting are mildly related.

Grouptivity Discuss - an email collaboration platform has added a new feature where you can add a discuss button next to your blog post, sounds like a closed group version of webride. They also have a bookmarklet so you can start a discussion about any webpage, for real-time chat try Gabbly, 3bubbles or Conversate (I have these 3 buttons at the end of the comments box on my posts). Other ways to send emails without the contained discussion feature are The Coop, share2me, and bzzstr. [via mashable]

DivShare Groups - file hosts are moving fast, Box has sharing of files, networks (handy if you are always sharing with the same people), a public box and widget. Features like the public box and now DivShare groups are taking filing sharing to the public, but because it’s based on a social network it’s upto the user to not share copyrighted files…you can always create a private group.

Netvibes Universe - joined the ranks of PageFlakes and Protopage by offering public startpage, which aren’t really start pages anymore, but moreso Topic Pages…yourminis and webjam seem to be in this same scene. Will FeedRaider and Speedyfeed survive the competition, as what they offer seems to be just one componenet of these other services.

Roundup : Amaznode, SharedBooks, Clutzr, WriteWith, AuthorStream

Amaznode - Amazon related product search, results are presented in a visual network

SharedBooks - print a blog book …also see Blurb.

Clutzr - attention network which records your click stream and recommends similar people, also see attenTV slifeshare. Also reminds me of a combination of Chatsum, Reko, and OthersOnline. [via mashable]

WriteWith - document review blogging, also see Approver [via TC]

AuthorStream - slideshow network for your powerpoint presentations, basically another SlideShare, Scribd will host it but not as a slideshow widget, an online storage service like Box will also host it for you, and OPML Workstation will convert a powerpoint file into an outline widget.
