Get blog updates on your mobile phone (IM, email, SMS, audio, web)

This is a follow up to my rss for mobiles post…updates on the go.

So you (the Publisher) want to offer people a way to get updates to your blog on their mobile phone.

So you (the Subscriber) want to subscribe to blog updates on your mobile phone.

We have three (3) scenarios:

NOTE: The services in this post do a lot more than just the focus of this post, check out each service to see the multitude of features.

1. A publisher SMS announcement service (outside of your blog feed)

TextMarks - create a widget on your blog, where people can get SMS alerts by texting your keyword to 41411, or you can push alerts to a subscriber list…see the post at TechCrunch.

Similar services are SMSJock, Loopnote (people can register and subscribe to your alerts by SMS or IM…more), Msgme (see below), SMS2email, SayNow (sent an SMS in order to listen to an audio message), mozes, Texticate, Broadtexter

2. A publisher offers SMS updates of their latest blog posts (within your blog feed)
(also IM, email, audio, mobile web)

Since mobile phones can also have IM, email, audio, and mobile web this is not just restricted to content delivery via SMS.

Zingku - people can text your keyword to a number to get updates to your blog feed by SMS…more.
Similar services are Msgme (includes scheduled alerts), 4info

Zingku doesn’t have to be publisher driven, people can create their own keyword for your blog feed.

Zingku have IM alerts, so if your mobile phone has IM, your set.

There are many email services you can use (I use FeedBlitz) for people to get your latest posts on their phone email…like Zingku this doesn’t have to be publisher driven.

Publishers can offer a button using voiceindigo mobilize which enables people to subscribe to audio updates on their phone.

See no 3. for mobile enabled-web.

[ADDED 22/10/07 : iCast - make widgets for your blog so subscribers can dowload images/video/text and even get posts by SMS]

3. The subscriber has to do it themselves
(IM, email, RSS, audio, mobile-web)

Since mobile phones can also have IM, email, audio, and mobile web this is not just restricted to content delivery via SMS.

RSS to IM - immedi.at, Blastfeed rasasa, ZapTXT and lots of others…with these last 2 the publisher can offer a button to make this easier for the subscriber.

RSS to email - Rmail, FeedBlitz, rasasa, ZapTXT and lots of others…the publisher can offer a button to make this easier for the subscriber.
NOTE: if your phone doesn’t have email, get it with flurry.

RSS to SMS - Zingku, xFruits, rasasa, ZapTXT

RSS to audio - Talkr (the publisher can offer a button to make this easier for the subscriber)…subscribe to this feed via any of the services above eg. RSS to IM, email, SMS, or upload to your phone from your PC.
Others are feed2podcast, Botcast Network, and Odiogo.

[ADDED 15/05/07: Audiodizer, and Bluegrind]

Audio on demand - create your own RSS Reader at Fonpod, subscribe to some text-to-audio feeds or podcasts, then ring up to listen to your feeds. Podlinez is similar, this time you choose from an audio feed directory or enter an audio feed URL and then ring the number to listen.

RSS voicemail - my phone provider “3” allows you to listen to emails as a voicemail.
NOTE: I have a “3″ phone email address and I can access IM (Yahoo! and MSN)

[ADDED 2/11/07: Call a Feed]

Mobile web - winksite, WidSets, Plusmo, Webwag mobile, Netvibes mobile and Tiggdo…the publisher can offer a button to make this easier for the subscriber.

Mobile RSS Reader (web or desktop) - see here.

[ADDED 26/03/07: rss2twitter - you can get your blog feed automatically posting to Twitter, this means people can receive your latest blog posts by SMS, IM, etc…]

[ADDED 27/03/07: xFruits RSS to Voice - listen to RSS items as mp3 files]

[ADDED 29/03/07: Jott - voicemail to text blog posting]

[ADDED 11/04/07: FeedBlitz enabling to subscribe to blogs with Twitter]

[ADDED 26/10/07: Mobile friendly version of your blog]
