jaiku : SMS blogging and re-syndication

/Message posts about Jaiku and rightfully compares it to Twitter.

A lot of people have been posting about Twitter lately, and mentioning how it fills a niche, a more spontaneous form of brief stream of consciousness blogging, all in a social network. People can be notified of your posts by SMS, and the web, you can also post this way as well.

Jaiku seems to be very similar, only it allows comments and it also allows you to re-syndicate posts from other services you belong to. So basically you can post directly to Jaiku, like Twitter, but you can also get your blog posts, your bookmarks, etc, to stream here as well.

In this respect is kind of reminds me of a newsmastering service like SuprGlu, but Jaiku has the bonus of adding your own content, and from your mobile as well. Plus it is in a social network, so it’s not just about you, its about getting updated on other peoples accounts as well.
Even more closer to SuprGlu is Top 10 Sources, as here you can re-syndicate your web happenings (but your Top 10 feeds about you is a bit ego centric), plus you can clip and add your own posts. But again the social network part of Jaiku gives it a more social perspective.
Then you could say Ziki is a bit similar, as you can re-syndicate all your web feeds, but you can’t blog original posts within Ziki.

I like posting in Jaiku, for every post you can choose an icon, and also type in your location, here is my first post. There are so many icons when you are on the go which really hones in on the mobile aspect of this service

As you can see each of your Jaiku posts has a permalink, even your re-syndicated posts have a permalink, but you have to click on the comment link, if you click on the title it will launch to the native post.

When you comment on a post, even your own, it will show up as a new entry in your stream.

Latest posts from everyone, and find people.

Add people to your contacts, now their stream will be mixed in with your steam, but this is only in your admin view, your public view will just have your stream. You have another admin view called “presence” which is just your posts.

I think I’d like my admin view to have a separate stream for my contacts as well, and group streams would be nifty, I think Twitter has the idea with groups, create your own presence posse.

Also check out the Jaiku badges.

  1. Hello John,

For your information, Ziki will introduce soon a publishing tool allowing members to create their own blogs within Ziki. Stay tuned.
