Top 10 Sources adds clipping and blogging

I posted a few times on Top 10 Sources, it is basically a newsmastering tool that allows you to enter your top 10 feeds which are then streamed in a river of news, here’s mine.

It generates an OPML, so you can take these feeds and perhaps load them into an RSS Reader, but I noticed that it has dropped its RSS feed, that is a spliced feed of the 10 feeds (so you can subscribe to 10 feeds within one feed).

The sidebar contains the sources for your 10 feeds, my feeds are all from blogs, so the sidebar has links to the homepage of all these blogs…I’d like to view content from just one blog.

Basically your Top 10 Sources will run itself, all you do is set it up…now they have added a feature where you can clip in posts manually. What a great idea, you make a Top 10 Sources about “beer”, but you come across a blog post from a blog that is not in your Top 10 Sources, but this blog has a post that would perfectly fit into your Top 10 stream, well now you can clip it into the stream (this is called Editor’s Picks).
It would be good if you could have a folder to just see all these clipped posts.

Not only that you can even leave an Editor’s Voice post, basically weaving in your own blog post, I’d also like a folder to see just these posts.

Also I’d like to see a calendar based archive for this part automated news, part clipping, part blog service.

These 2 new features really compliment this service:
- automatic content
- clip in outside content NEW!
- post your own content NEW!

See all about this at Citizen FAQ.

You will notice the OPML will not contain your clips, or your posts, as these 2 features don’t have their own RSS feed, otherwise it would have to be called Top 10 + 2 Sources.

MySyndicaat is probably the most powerful newsmastering tool, I haven’t checked it out in a while, but I do remember 2 powerful features were:
- Browse content by tag (the tag of a story is included in the RSS feed), and you can even make synonym rings in the tag cloud
- Create a digest (from your newstream you can clip stories to a digest).

I could mimic Top 10 Sources using MySyndicaat:
- set up an feedbot with 10 feeds
- use a service like publi.sh so you can blog posts the easiest way possible (this way you have a feed but no HTML page to view it)
- now add this feed to MySyndicaat
- create an account at clipmarks where you can clip content to your stream, each clip has a permalink (these clips can all be save in a tag)
OR use a del.icio.us tag RSS feed (but all you get is the title link without the excerpt)
- add the tag feed from clipmarks or del.icio.us to MySyndicaat

Now you have 12 feeds: 10 automated, 1 manual blog, 1 manual clip

Then on top of it you can refine your feedbot stream by clipping to a digest.
