Yedda widgets for your blog

Yedda is my favourite Q&A expert locator service, they have now released widgets for your blog.

There are two kinds, and more to come:

- The FAQ widget collects relevant questions from Yedda on your blog topic and displays them directly in your blog, so that you can always have fresh content for your readers.

- The Yedda Ask widget lets people ask directly from your blog questions related to your blog topics, which are posted to Yedda, with a link back to your blog.

The Ask widget is a clever idea, as it is getting Yedda out there into the blogosphere, besides the functionality of the widget it is a promotion in itself…plus questions asked from blogs will link back to the blog when browsing questions in Yedda (cross promotion I guess).

The only complaint I had about Yedda in the past is that you can’t direct your question at a specific person, eg. ask a specific person and cc: the rest of Yedda as usual…and of course Yedda will invite others to help with an answer (FAQQLY seems the opposite, it can direct a question to an individual or a group, but it can’t ask a question to the whole of FAQQLY).

Just wondering if people asking questions in the widget will think it is directed to the blog owner, perhaps the blog owner could be invited to answer the question by default…not sure if this happens.

  1. Thanks for the comments, these are good points.

I think we’ll want to add support for both of them.

Of course, sending a question directly to someone will be possible only if they allow this in their privacy settings. Also, inviting the blog owner to a question asked from the blog will happen only if the blog owner accepts invitations etc. It’s all in the details :)

What other types of Yedda widgets do you think we should add?

  2. Another thing, will visitors to your blog need to be registered with Yedda to ask a question in your Yedda widget.

    Other widgets:

    - list of all questions you’ve answered
    - topic cloud of your expertise

    - even easy link rolls, eg. rss feed of last questions you have answered, as opposed to a list of all questions you’ve answered

    - what about browse Yedda from my widget, via categories or a tagcloud…this could maybe done via Grazr if you have OPML.

  3. John, just wanted to let you know that we’ve added support for inviting the blog owner to questions posted through their blog.

The rest will follow soon :)

  4. John - the “list of all questions you’ve answered” thing just went live. We’ve done it as a “My Profile on Yedda” widget - it shows your Yedda Profile, your recent answers, how many “thumbs up” you received, and a link to see all answers you posted.
