WebShotsPro : hosted screenshots
[UPDATE: screenshots sizes can be changed and linked to a jpg URL.]
I’ve never used images in my blog posts, because it seemed all to hard, I’ve thought about using hosted image files services such Flickr or ImageShack, but I haven’t got much time to post these days; including images would take even longer.
Including images in your posts may be as simple as a bookmarklet click using WebShotsPro, just click on the page you want, and it instantly creates a screenshot and a URL to include in your blog post.
Plus, these images are stored (see the latest), so you may want to browse before shooting your own.
Like Steve Rubel says, this could amass to a vast screenshot (image thumbnails) directory, naturally tags and RSS would make it all the easier…even a user space to collect all your images (which I think is in the works).
Let’s try it from this grab…
As you can see this is a thumbnail image only, I tried to add some width and height, but this was not successful.
What I can do, is add the link to the WebShotsPro page of my image, see here:
But what I want is is to open a pop-up of a larger screen size of the image.
Flickr
This process is a bit more manual, I have to take the screenshot, crop it, save it, then upload it to Flickr.
The benefit is that Flickr is secure, and you can choose different image sizes, here is an example of a thumbnail:

In the examples so far I had to add <img src="…….."></a>
Flickr also offers a coded version, see here:
When you click on this it takes you to the Flickr page…what I’m looking for is when you click on the image, you get a pop-up of the image for a larger view.
If I’m using these images for my blog, I don’t really want people to be diverted to my Flickr space, I’d rather they stay in context of the blog post, going to my Flickr space will be a distraction.
Feedback
WebShotsPro
- to be able to size the image (beyond thumbnails)
- the bookmarklet to give you more than just the URL, it would be good if it could wrap it in image HTML markup
- a larger version (or full screen version) when you click on the image.
[ADDED: according to 3spots, it looks like you can change the image size in the URL, and perhaps even link to a larger size of the image (you could expand to regular size anyway), let’s try:
Here is the code:
