ziki : search you web 2.0

I’ve mentioned a few times how cool Ziki is…it’s a place to collate all your web 2.0 interactions via the re-syndication wonders of RSS. Your content is organised into feed types such as; posts, bookmarks, comments, photo’s, etc…

If you have multiple blogs you can enter these feeds into the posts feed type…this way “posts” will have a spliced feed of your blog content, it will also generate an OPML Reading List of all your blogs, same goes with the other feed types. You also have a general level spliced feed and OPML for your whole ziki account.

Just briefly, this all takes place in a social system, so you know what that means, tags and discovering like people and like content…plus the in vogue people tagging feature (you can tag yourself, and soon it will allow others to tag you as well.)

Not only are you generating spliced feeds and OPML’s but you can view the stream of contents in ziki.

Anyway, ziki have now released a search feature, that’s right, now you can search your posts from all your blogs, all your bookmarks, all your comments, etc…in the one search.

NOTE: the search result doesn’t generate a unique URL, meaning you can’t point to a search result…this also means you don’t get RSS for search results.

I was just thinking, if you use tags for all your blogs and bookmarks, etc…could you browse all your blog posts, bookmarks, comments, etc…by author tags (like you can on SuprGlu and MySyndicaat).
[UPDATE 7/07/06: Yes you can there is a tag cloud in the archives section]

NOTE: Coming to think of it you can search all your web2.0 interactions at any Public RSS Reader like MySyndicaat, Blogdigger groups, feed collectors, etc…

Anyway, I’d like to see some ziki code to be able to put a search box on my blog, that way people can search me all over the place from the one box in my blog.

Search My Ziki, this will search my blog, blog comments, my bookmarks, and comments I make elsewhere.

If you want to subscribe to this content in one feed, here is my ziki feed …maybe I should put it through Feedburner…graze it now.

Here is my ziki OPML …graze it now.

Here is my Reading List, just for good measure …graze it now.

Here’s little promotion .

  1. Hi John
You’re reading our roadmap!:-) Most of the features you’re suggesting are on our “to-do list” (e.g. : generate a unique url for search results, being able to put a Ziki search box on your blog).
We’re still at an early stage and have a lot to do… No date yet, but I’ll definitely keep you posted. It’s good to see you’re sharing our thoughts as to what we need to work on!:-)
As for browsing content by author tags, yep, currently you can do that via each Ziki tag cloud, which includes all tags from its author’s content.
Thanks very much for your feedback!

  2. Severine,

What I meant by author tags is the tags or categories I use in my blog posts.
My blog posts are re-syndicated in Ziki, but I can’t view my blog posts by tag…I can’t view my del.icio.us posts by tag.

Just say you have 5 blogs, in Ziki you can choose feed type “posts” and enter the feeds of all your 5 blogs.

This way when you view your posts section, you will see a river of news from all the feeds combined…it also offers a spliced feed and a Reading List if you want take out…which is very kind.

SuprGlu is a different model than Ziki, but what you can do is enter all your 5 blogs feeds, and again it displays a river of news, and offers a spliced feed.
But what it also does is allow you to view content by the tags you tagged those blog posts with, that is, the tags are also re-syndicated with the posts.

MySyndicaat goes even further and allows you to cluster tags to make your tag cloud neater, that is, if in one blog you tags posts with the tag “rss” and another blog you tag posts with the tag “feed” you may want to iron this ambiguity out and say any post with the tag “feed” will be changed to the tag “rss”.

    Hope that makes sense.

As I said this probably isn’t part of the Ziki model…Ziki is about discovering people as the prime directive.

  3. Severine,

    My apologies…

You do re-syndicate the tag/s within the RSS feed…I just noticed in the archives section that I have a personal tag cloud for my Ziki, where I can read my content by author tag
    …http://ziki.com/people/johntee/archives.

Cool…this is in league with MySyndicaat and SuprGlu.

At the moment the tagcloud is for my whole Ziki…can I get a tag cloud for each feed type.

  4. Hi John - No problem!:-) So, yes, as long as there are tags in the feed, we re-syndicate them. And you can find your tag cloud in the “archives” section. The tag cloud is for you whole Ziki, not per feed type. But it’s a good point. We’ll look into that. Thanks!
