aussie web2.0 style

Just posted on Gnoos, the new blog search engine with an aussie content focus…I was just complementing on how good it was to see posts limited to one country eg. do aussies post about web2.0?
The other thing is that you can discover cool aussie blogs, just type in a search term and source hunt…it does have a simple tag browse, but you can’t limit this to aussie blogs.

So one thing led to another and I discovered AustralianBlogs.com.au, this is a tag-based aussie blog finder…not bad at all. I checked out the tag cloud and found some gems, I also came across the Perth (city) tag to see who blogs in my area and what they blog about…now I wish I could re-submit my blog and add the Perth tag to my profile.

I guess this is taking over from the belated Australian Weblogs.

It doesn’t stop, the same crew also run AustralianPodcasts.com.au.

Then to top it off the same crew recently released News 2.0…from Ruminations:
“Basically, News 2.0 collects and displays posts from all the blogs that are listed on AustralianBlogs.com”…newsmastering in my own backyard.

Also see Tech Talk Blogs.

I even found out there is a Perth bloggers meetup group, and
Perth Blognite (also has a river of news)

  2. Hi John, thanks for the link. Great blog - looks like all is going well at ACNM for you?
Jon Yau of australianblogs.com was picking my brains until recently about his news service - I’m sure he’d be very glad for any feedback you care to offer him, he loves tips from librarians.

  3. hi, there’s also a list of australian blogs at theaustralianindex.com you might like to check out

  4. Genevieve,

I’m no longer at ACNM, I’m working for an engineering consultancy firm in Perth.

I’ve posted a bit about newsmastering on this blog, and displaying a river of news contents in a Public RSS Reader…my knowledge stops with what you can do with FREE tools, but my mind keeps going.

    Sarah,

The AustralianIndex looks awesome, thanks for the pointer.

Only thing is that the blogs on the left column could show the latest post instead of each blog saying recently updated…why not just show the post instead.

It also seems to have an editorial stream on the right….this is a bit similar to how the Corante Web Hub works (only they have a river of news, instead of saying “recently updated”)
    See my post on this:
    http://libraryclips.blogsome.com/2005/12/01/corante-web-hub

I also like the display on Zdnet Australia, river of news or by each blog…but I do like the idea of an editorial blog.

NOTE: How could I of forgot to add the blog from one of my blog hosts, Paint the Tiger Carve the Swan

I just submitted my blog to the AustralianIndex, only to find I was already included.

  5. Librarians for the backbone of the AustralianBlogs product design and testing team!

    Thanks for the plug guys.

  6. While I thank you for the link, I’m not actually Australian, even though my partners in b5media (Shai, Duncan and Darren) are :)

  7. some more of me links

Jonathan Bennett of CNET News.com reported a couple of weeks ago from the World Wide Web 2006 conference in Edinburgh that the Semantic Web is ready to go, now that SPARQL is close to implementation. Link via Martin Lessard of Zeroseconde.

  9. The State of Australian Social Media

John Tropea over at Library clips has compiled a fantastic list of aussie social media (aka ‘Web2.0′) links. Bravo, John! Might need to add your name to the list over on Constantin’s wiki…

  10. Hi John, if you want to add the Perth tag for this blog, I think you can email Jon and he’ll do it for you :) Oh, and you should consider coming along to the next meetup - on 21 June, I think - that way there’ll be not one, but TWO librarians there ;) (I’m hoping to go along.)

Nice blog by the way! :)
