In my post on OPML inclusion I described how the KOZOPMLBROWSER could not only browse OPML’s and also browse OPML’s that are within an OPML (inclusion)…it can also read feeds just like an RSS Reader.
So not only is this an OPML Browser, but it is also an RSS Reader.

In a typical RSS Reader like Bloglines, your subscriptions are contained in an OPML URL, this way people can import/export or even subscribe to this OPML URL (Reading Lists).

The stipulation is that your Bloglines OPML (subscriptions) are obviously all feed URL’s that may be organised in folders, so the items in this OPML are all feeds, as that is all RSS Readers will read.
You can’t add text or links into your subscription panel (which is essentially an outline), but why would you as this outline is just focused for feed content.

So what an OPML Browser does is let you browse OPML’s where the items/nodes are text, HTML links, RSS feeds, or even other OPML’s.
This is fine, but when it comes to feeds as being items, when you click on one it just takes you to the feed page instead of acting as an RSS Reader would…the great thing that makes the KOZOPMLBROWSER different is that when you click on a feed it will launch a very light weight mini RSS Reader that shows you the latest items.

So in essence the KOZOPMLBROWSER is an OPML Browser and RSS Reader in one.

With this tool instead of your subscription pane containing just feeds, now it can contain text, HTML links, RSS feeds, and other OPML’s.

So the idea is to make a massive Root OPML, this is your raw outline, that holds any type of item
- you can add text to it, links, feeds, OPML’s…and organise it in folders.

The Root OPML is such a versatile idea, it is not only a subscription panel it is an outline tool, where you can publish text, links, feeds (you can also read these feeds)….but also subscribe to other OPML’s that may contain other text, links, feeds you can read, or even more OPML’s

…it seems this type of OPML outline is a publishing and subscribing tool in one.

The only problem I see with this tool is that it doesn’t show its Root OPML URL for you to cut n’ paste

…also it doesn’t show the OPML URL’s of all the OPML’s it points to

…also some of the 1st level folders contain a great batch of feeds, I wish these folders had their own OPML URL

Reason being is that I may want to subscribe to just a section of this massive Root OPML.

I think the way around this is to make heaps of OPML’s and then combine them in a Root OPML, therefore each section can have it’s own OPML URL, then you can offer an address for people to subscribe to these URL’s.

At the moment when you browse this tool you come across a folder called News Feeds containing 6 folders of feeds, instead of making 6 folders of feeds directly in the Root OPML outline, this could be done in a separate OPML that is pointed to, that way these 6 folders of feeds have their own OPML URL.
Then you would have to promote the URL of this OPML somewhere so people can subscribe to it, same goes with the other OPML’s being pointed to in this News Feeds folder…how do you grab the individual OPML URL’s of BBC News, Moreover news, or CNET.

[ADDED: OPML Inclusion seems to be similar to using Reading Lists, but you can point to OPML’s that contain not just feeds, but also text or links]
