Offline PIM blogging
I’ve been thinking that I need an electronic diary to record what I do at work everyday…the idea is to take this information, that would otherwise be forgotten or in scraps of paper, or in various electronic documents, and consolidate it into a diary entry…I use our organisational EDMS to store all my documents (this will make it quick and easy to link to from my diary entries).
Later on I can browse my entries (personal information) and turn this into new information or knowledge, without this consolidation I would have to look for scraps of paper, and in various electronic documents to gather material for my task at hand…so I guess I keep all my information in the EDMS, and my diary (searchable, browsable by date, or category), gives context to this information, and later on I can browse my contextual information (rather than the repository) to make new information…it’s just another level of organisation for my documents that is more contextual, and the plus is that there is plenty of explanation about the document (so a diary entry could almost be descriptive metadata about an item).
Anyway I need a computer diary that works exactly as a weblog, but I don’t want it to be online, or on the work server, I just want it to be personal.
I thought I could use MSWord, where the View > Document Map of the outline could be like an index (although, these entries only have bookmark links, they don’t have permalinks - ie, their own page)…but I really want a more focused tool, that has the content managment features of a blog, so I need more of a diary with database features
…maybe one for the Lazy Web.
