MonitorThis: meta-search in OPML
The OPML stuff just doesn’t stop coming, MonitorThis searches 15 search engines in one go and spits out OPML code.
All you have to do is highlight all the code, cut n’ paste it into notepad, save it to your pc with “.opml” as the extension, then export it into OPML Manager, and there you have it, an OPML file and outline of a search term from 15 search engines to batch load into your RSS reader.
Here’s one I did for the search term: folksonomy…here’s the outline
An ego version of this would be great, oh well, I’ll have to make it manually.
[ADDED 3/11/05: Actually Talk Digger would be a prime candidate to offer OPML for meta-ego searching]
Also check out Tara’s Kebberfegg tool, a meta-search tool to generate RSS feeds from heaps of engines at once, also in OPML format. Once it generates an OPML file you can import that into your RSS reader, but it won’t import into OPML Manager, so I had to highlight all the text in the page and save it in notepad, but then when I tried to import the local file it wouldn’t work either…oh well MonitorThis does a great job anyway.

[ADDED 7/11/05: I just noticed Gada.be has a OPML link on the bottom of their page, so it does a similar thing to MonitorThis.]

The import-module of opmlmanager.com had a little bug which is solved now. Importing feeds from monitorthis.com works fine now.

So is this like Technorati but only for specific sites?

Hello,
Good idea
However, how would you like to use it? I mean, how would you implement it into talk digger? What is your vision of the use of OPML into Talk Digger to extend that meta-ego search engine
BTW, do you know where the “[meta-]ego search” term came from? (who is the first person to use it?)
Thank a lot!
BTW, I wrote a little post on the future of Talk Digger, many things are planned for the next months, keep looking at it.
Salutations,
Fred
