Tagyu offers suggestions to help you find the right tag for your item.

Just enter some text or a URL (I guess the more text the better as this adds context) and Tagyu will spit out some tags.

Clicking on these tag/s will show some recent links from del.icio.us tagged with [the tag] along with how the del.icio.us user tagged each link and Tagyu’s suggested tags.

From the introductory post:

“Tagyu compares what you’re writing to what other people around the web are writing. It looks at how they’ve tagged their content and uses that information to give you some ideas about how to tag yours […] Tagyu learns by reading content, so it will become better behaved with age…”

I wonder how these suggested tags are different to del.icio.us related tags…how does del.icio.us work out related tags?

It says here they cluster tags by common URL’s…does this mean, “here are some tags that are used when this tag is used”…more here.

If you look at a del.icio.us item URL it lists common tags on the sidebar, this is easier enough to understand (it’s a selection from all the tags used for a given URL)…Tagyu shows all these tags under each item, eg. Tagged as….

If you look at a del.icio.us tag page it list related tags on the sidebar, not sure how they are different to the Tagyu suggested tags
…maybe del.icio.us related tags are confined to the del.icio.us community, whereas Tagyu scans a bigger section of the web in order to suggest tags.
