del.icio.us search so far

del.icio.us search

search by tag

search your account (all fields - title, tag, description, URI??)

search all accounts (all fields - title, tag, description, URI??)
(You can also do this on the search your account screen by checking the box “entire site”)

You can’t search for a tag within your own account

Other tools

del.icio.us + Gmail (search full-text of your del.ico.us account)
del.icio.us tag search (formal way of adding tags, even within a user)

Where is…

Full boolean searching

Caching of pages for full-text search

Fielded searching (just within tag field, or just within title field, or just within description field, or just within full-text field ???oneday)…and also using boolean operators combined with fielded search.

Refine search (ie. searching within the results from your initial search)

Results clustered by tag

…future

I think search is going to be really needed soon as tags are starting to contain a vast amount of bookmarks.
The amount of items within a tag is great for browsing and serendipity, but if you are trying to find a specific item (even if you know which tag it is in) you will still need to search for it instead of scrolling through 100’s or 1000’s of tags.

What will be the relevance ranking for searching within a folksonomy system, del.icio.us lacks a social rating system.

Check out CollaborativeRank.
From the paper:

“Users on del.icio.us who give meaningful tags to helpful/timely URLs (as evidenced by others subsequently doing the same) will be rewarded with higher CollaborativeRank, which means that their tagging will have greater influence on this search engine’s rankings.”

  1. Folksonomy + search = 1 word: Simpy. Seriously. :) I’d love to get your feedback!
