CommonTimes - News folksonomy

CommonTimes is another social bookmarking tool based on the features of del.icio.us…the difference is that this tool is topic specific to News articles.
The popular tags are listed as a tagcloud, as well as the names of communities (you can form your own groups).

All bookmarks have 2 kinds of permalinks, the first is the usual ( “2 other people” bookmarked this item) and it goes to a page that lists the users where you can launch to their account (doesn’t list their tags for that item), also unlike del.icio.us it doesn’t show the running list of the same bookmark.

The other permalink, labelled “permalink” enables you to add a comment or email the link.
I’m not sure why there are two types of permalinks, can’t they just combine the information into one page.

The body of the home page features the top stories (or recent stories) of some selected tags, such as Entertainment, Environment, Science, Business, etc…although you can’t get to the permalink or see the tags applied for each item in these featured sections…you can copy the bookmark to your account, email it, or see who else has bookmarked it (the other permalink page)

Every tag has an RSS feed, every user has an RSS feed, and every group has an RSS feed, although tags at the user or group level don’t have RSS feeds…also feeds for popular items, and recent items are offered.

When you view a users account you can’t see their tag list…hmmm…also I don’t see a related tags list.

They also have a link to show top stories of the day, week, or month.

Anyway, besides a few lacking features I like the clean interface and presentation…I really like the idea of a folksonomy for News, and their slogan “News you choose”.

Here is their blog.

If you see the tabs at the top you can goto the other folksonomies, one for music, politics, video, etc…
