del.icio.us private bookmarks

del.icio.us private links hack…need I say more

…this gives a choice to make some of your del.icio.us bookmarks private.

blinkx.tv: RSS video (and podcasts)

blinkx.tv has released SmartFeeds, now offers RSS feeds for TV search (includes podcasts)

ie. generate a keyword search RSS feed for any text appearing in video or podcasts that are indexed by blinkx.tv.

Others without RSS feeds:

Podscope (podcasts only)
Google Video (tv only)
Yahoo Video (not sure)

del.icio.us filtered

del.icio.us filtered is a way to filter out seeing the same bookmark again and again in your RSS reader (which can be very frustrating).

I’d like this type of filter for Yahoo! News vs. Google News…both these news sources cover the same stories or URL’s quite often, but I subscribe to both their feeds as they do have unique content.

It would be good if I could run my 10 Yahoo! News and 10 Google News RSS feeds through a filter and generate a “No duplicates RSS feed”…anyone!

…or can this be done within the RSS Reader, sometimes I’ve noticed that an item in Newsgator Online has a duplicates link (not sure what this means).

NOTE: there is duplication anyway due to different newspapers re-syndicating the same stories…although I think Google News tries to collapse these items.

IceRocket-Blogs Tags!

IceRocket is now a competitor to Technorati Tags

IceRocket-Blogs Tags! can now also search at the blog category level

…and of course in true IceRocket fashion there is an RSS feed waiting for you at the end of every search.

Here is an earlier post on IceRocket.

ReFilter: filter a feed

Filed under: General, rss, newsmaster, tools

ReFilter is a tool I’ve been anticipating

…along with the host of standalone re-mixing tools, there is now a filtering tool.

Now with the use of ReFilter, just enter your feed URL and then a search term, and this will generate a filtered feed to your specification.

Why do this?

Well you may subscribe to a feed/s that only has minimal relevant stuff amongst the numerous irrelevant posts, but you sacrifice scrolling through the undesired posts because you really value the gems.
A way around this is to subscribe to a category feed (if available) rather than the main feed…but you may be interested in some gems from multiple categories, so the next option is to use ReFilter to make a search term feed/s.

In doing this you will only see the posts from that website or blog that have your search term, so the results are only as good as your search term…you may miss out on the odd gem…also from time to time it’s good to view all posts to see if the author is posting any new stuff on a topic you like

…and of course this increases the inverse relationship micro-content has with serendipity.
That is, the more selective your content is the more unlikely you will come across stuff that you didn’t know you’d be interested in.
In saying this I’m coming across enough new stuff anyway within my narrow field of choice (so micro-content is helping me alleviate information overload, and now ReFilter is helping alleviate RSS overload).

…before hand you had to use an RSS Reader like Web RSS Reader or perform a site search within an RSS engine…see the list.
Incorporating this tool into an RSS Reader, like Web RSS Reader is my preference, as you don’t have to rely on a 3rd party tool.
