Who subscribes to your blog by RSS.

Filed under: General, rss, readers, tools

The best way to track the number of subscribers is to use a Feedburner feed…on my blog I have 2 feeds; the native feed, and a Feedburner feed.
The problem is, only a handful of people subscribe to my Feedburner feed, so how do I track the number of people who subscribe to my native feed.

Well I only know of two tools:

Bloglines tells you the number of subscribers to a particular feed
Rojo tells you the number of subscribers to a particular feed

To take my case at the moment, I have 13 Feedburner subscribers, 4 Rojo subscribers, and 97 Bloglines subscribers (in saying this those 9 Feedburner subscribers are using Bloglines, so I can safely say I have 105 subscribers).

These are only RSS subscribers, this is not counting my email subscribers via Bot-a-blog (thinking about changing to R|mail, as this lists number of subscribers).

Feedburner seems the best tool, as you can re-direct your native feed traffic to Feedburner…read on.

Knowing the number of your subscribers is one thing, but how do you know if anyone is reading your feed unless you use Feedburner.

Now my point is, it would be good if there was a single tool that could tell you the number of subscribers for a blog.

I don’t have a clue how this would work, but it seems like this tool would have to scour every RSS reader on the market, and collect all the subscribers to each feed.
The results could be shown by RSS reader, and added up for a total number of subscribers.

  1. Thanks and we (R|mail dudes) intend to provide FeedBurner like reporting in the near future. At the moment, we report our subscribers to FeedBurner, so you can see how many subs you have there too! Thanks for the reference.

  2. For the record, Bot A Blog is now under new ownership and the new owner plans to launch a “number of subscribers” feature. Stick with us a little longer :-)
