How do I stop pinging myself?

A question for lazy web

Just a quick note to those who subscribe to my RSS comments…for some reason everytime I put a link in a post that refers to an old post it pings me and ends up in the comments of the new post…now I don’t really want trackbacks/citation links from myself.

So I apologise for the trash your getting from this feed.

I don’t know how to prevent this from happenning…no-one is yet to respond to my topic in the forums from my bloghost.

The URI to TrackBack this entry is: http://libraryclips.blogsome.com/2005/05/11/how-do-i-stop-pinging-myself/trackback/

  1. I get that too, but it’s actually kinda helpful for following threads through a blog - put yourself in the shoes of someone who stumbled across a blog post via Google - they’d have access to related posts by following the trackbacks through your weblog.

There is a better solution for that case (the “related posts” plugin), but the trackback trail works fine.

If it bothers you having self-referential trackbacks, I think the only way to prevent them is by killing trackbacks altogether (although I could be wrong).
