Search for tags del.icio.us

There are a few dedicated tools to search for del.icio.us tags:

Technorati tags
Tag Central
del.icio.us tag search

Some of the comments to this post demonstrated you can also use general search tools like Google and Blogdigger.

Google
allinurl: library site:del.icio.us
(only finds users who use the library tag…doesn’t show you a list of bookmarks…doesn’t work with some syntax like the underscore eg. LIS_km).

Blogdigger
site:del.icio.us subject:library
(results show a list of bookmarks with the specific tag)

Try the same search but also with the term ISBN appearing in the extended field or title field…here it is: site:del.icio.us subject:library isbn

Try multiple categories: site:del.icio.us subject:(library blogs rss)

Or you can do a plain old site search: site:del.icio.us library
(looks for the term “library” appearing in any of the del.icio.us fields - description, extended, title, url[?])

Search for a user, eg. site:del.icio.us author:johnt
(only 6 hits, hmmm…)

Found it unsual that a simple site search failed, eg. site:del.icio.us (without a search term).

Alternatively, this is the blogID for del.icio.us : blogID:27622
(not sure if this is meant to be similar to viewing the del.icio.us homepage).

I don’t think Blogdigger can handle syntax like, underscores, either.

Tagophilia for every blog entry

Going back to my post the other day on having a tool list after every blog entry..check out this awesome tool called Tagophilia.

Does anyone know how to alter this code for Wordpress?

I might post this in the Blogsome (my blog host) forum.

openSubscriber

openSubscriber is a tool similar to the email subscription function in Bloglines.

As long as their is no email confirmation set-up you can submit an email list to this database, which enables you to read the email list content as an RSS feed.

Feedcombine: another RSS mixer

Filed under: General, blogs, rss, wiki, newsmaster, tools

Feedcombine is another tool that re-mixes feeds, here is the previous list.

I think this is where a web page or wiki page would be handy in adding these tools to a list, instead of adding a new tool to an old blog post.

Adding a new RSS re-mix tool to an old blog post that lists RSS re-mix tools is wrong in a way, as the new tool may not have existed on the date stamp of the older post.

Instead of using a wiki maybe I could have a link on the sidebar of the blog that goes to a folder in my del.icio.us account where I could store RSS re-mix tools…or better still it can show the HTML version of the del.icio.us folder.

Furl: right-click

One of my posts listed some handy-right click tools, and I was lamenting the fact that I couldn’t find one for Furl.

Well, silly me, in your Furl page, click on the Tools tab and there it is.

Here is what is says:

“This is especially helpful when you want to save a page that appears on a site that uses frames, or when you want to save a series of links on a given page.”

RSS reader: re-syndicate RSS clip folders

An RSS reader with a clippings folder that has it’s own RSS feeds goes a long way if you want to re-syndicate content with ease and in a timely fashion.

From an aggregator like Newsgator I can clip items of interest into organised folders…each of these folders has it’s own RSS feed, as well as a general RSS feed for all folders combined.
This is great for newsmastering as you can re-syndicate items from your clippings folder into a blog, by using a RSS-to-HTML tool.

So, if you have 10 clippings folders, this content could be re-syndicated to 10 blogs. You could also re-syndicate the master feed for all the clippings folders combined into one blog. Or if you use a multi-blog platform you could aggregate the contents of the 10 blogs into a master blog (best of both worlds).

Great thing about clipping in Newsgator is there is no box that you fill in, it’s really quick, all you do is click on save and mouse over the folder, and it saves in an instance. This is handy if you are on a time schedule as you can zoom through your reader and clip away, populating content in your blog for your clients morning read at 9am (although I’m yet to check the time lag from the clippings folder into the blog-this may be the downside of not manually editing the blog myself).

Only problem with Newsgator is that you can only clip an item into one folder, unlike the more robust social bookmark managers that let you clip to multiple folders…but I like the idea of content going from the RSS reader straight to a blog without requiring a social bookmark manager as a middle man.

The advantage of having a bookmark facility (incl. RSS feeds) in you RSS reader is that you don’t have to open the item to bookmark it with a bookmarklet, so this saves time (I suppose right-click facilities are just as quick) and you only have to use one platform instead of two.

I’ll have to look around for an RSS reader that can clip to multiple folders, I think I’ll give Pluck a try, see what all the talk is about.

Title Index via del.icio.us

Since I don’t know how to create a title index for this blog, I’ve decided to use del.icio.us. On the left panel, under Categories, there is now a heading for a Title Index…clicking on this will go to a del.icio.us version of this blog where you can easily scroll the list of blog entries by title.

Since so few people subscribe to my Feedburner feed (spliced with my del.icio.us bookmarks), I’ve decided to re-syndicate my latest bookmark entries from my del.icio.us account into this blog, view this at the end of the left panel (one day I’ll work out how to put some of this loaded panel on to the right panel). Here is the feed.

Blog post utilities!

Yesterday I posted about automating the linking to and from your blog, RSS reader and bookmarks…I kept thinking of things to link to and came up with a list that is too long to sit under each blog post.

So I thought under every blog post, you could have, Comments, Permanent URL, date/time, Trackback, RSS comments, and tools.

Mousing over the tools link would bring up a box similar to Quicksub or you could click on the link to bring up a prompt box with the choice of tools as follows:

  • Google Link!
  • Technorati Cosmos! or Bloglines Citations!
  • Del.icio.us Link!
  • Google Similar!
  • Technorati Related! or Waypath Related! or Findory Related!
  • Del.icio.us Similar! or Furl Similar!
  • Blog This!
  • Del.icio.us This! (eg.)
  • Wiki This!
  • IM This!
  • Email This!
  • Discuss This!
  • Print This!
  • Word This! (edit this)
  • PDF This!
  • Translate This!
  • PubSub LinkStats!
  • Alexa Traffic!
  • Watch That Page It!
  • Tiny URL This!

…and the list goes on.

You could also list the RSS feeds next to some of these tools.

Connecting my Blog, Aggregator, and Bookmarks

Filed under: General, blogs, readers, tools

More automation between my blog, RSS reader, and bookmark manager.

From every post in Bloglines I’d like to:

  • post to del.icio.us
  • At the moment I can right-click on a post in Bloglines and save it to del.icio.us…this saves time as I don’t have to go to the actual webpage and use the bookmarklet…more on right clicks.

Here is a tool that does exactly what I want, but you need greasemonkey.

  • post to my blog
  • Here is a script that allows you to clip to Wordpress directly from within Bloglines…I don’t think I’m techie enough to use this tool.

  • post a comment
  • See more here (scroll half way).

From every post in my blog, I would like to:

  • clip to del.icio.us link

Also it would be good to include a link in every post to see who has bookmarked your post in del.icio.us, same as what the del.icio.us linkbacks bookmarklet does.
This is similar to having a Technorati citation link on every post.

    Thanks for the insight LibraryStuff

Going back to an old post, I wonder if anyone has made a bookmarklet for Durl.

At the moment I’m using an RSS feed created from Durl to see who is bookmarking a particular post from my blog on del.icio.us…I find I’m doing this for a lot of posts…my question is can’t you just make one feed from Durl that will tell you who has bookmarked any of your posts within your blog….Technorati watch list tells you anyone who has linked to any of the posts in your blog via just one RSS feed…isn’t this the same process?

I wish I was a techie!

Check out your blog statistics according to PubSub

PubSub LinkStats allows you to enter a URL and view the incoming links, outgoing links and number of entries you have made on a given day.

This is tabled by date…you can even link to a list of all the sites that have linked to you, and the sites you have linked to.

All three of these aspects (inlinks, outlinks, entries) are graphed…how cool!…and to top it off there is also your very own blog stats feed according to PubSub.
